Looking South from the end of the road...


... you can't quite see the ocean because the bay curves between the mountains.

I guess it's not really a bay, but a fjord. Starkly beautiful by any name.

Ships on long- distance coastal tours stop at Seward, primarily in the summer. There is an airport, too small for jetliners. Fly to Anchorage and rent a car.

Kenai Fjords Tours runs a fleet of boats for whale- watching from April to November. We saw seals and sea lions and eagles, but no whales.

They provide a box lunch, and bake cookies in the galley while underway. The cookies are consumed before the aroma dissipates.
